The Valentine's Day Demon Massacre (2026)

from Lynda on 03/14/2026 03:27 AM

Demons were on the move and both John and Lynda could feel it in the air. After a terribly slow Christmas, they knew that something was brewing. They didn't know when or where, but they knew they had to be always prepared, especially with Angel and Dean in the house. Lynda had just finished up doing the lunch dishes and when she was finished, she had the boys lay down on the floor and watch cartoons. She told them that they didn't have to go to sleep, but they do needed to rest and be quiet for a while, which the boys agreed and soon did what their mother had wanted. After making sure the boys were okay, Lynda went back to cleaning and that's when she noticed what day it was and what was coming up. And that made her feel uneasy because she didn't know if she and John were really going to be able to celebrate Valentine's Day with the rumors spreading that there was going to be a demon uprising. It was about that time that John was coming through the front door, and Lynda quickly went to meet him. After they kissed each other, Lynda began to speak to him. "Be quiet, the boys are laying in the living room watching tv," she told him. "But I'm fairly sure they are both asleep right because of those hell hounds barking all night," she told John as she helped him take off his coat and hung it up for him.

"Come into the kitchen with me and I will get you something hot to eat and drink," she told him as she dusted the snow off him. "But first take your shoes off, I don't want you tracking snow all through the house," she added as she hung his coat up, making sure to keep it over the towels that were there so that snow wouldn't get all over the house. John nodded, though a little annoyed, that Lynda was being so fussy, but then again, he was too cold to argue, so after taking his shoes off, he followed her into the kitchen, both only stopping long enough to check in on the sleeping boys. Once they were in the kitchen, John, who was still shivering a little, sat down at the kitchen table as Lynda went right to work on fixing John something hot to drink and eat. After making John some hot coffee, which she sat in front of him, she went right to work on getting him something hot to eat because she knew he was probably starving from making sure that his little family was safe from the demons who were working on an uprising. As she was fixing John something to eat, Lynda went on speaking to him about the upcoming Valentine's Day. "John, honey, what are we going to do about Valentine's Day?" she asked him as she was warming up the leftover stew from the night before.

John wrapped both hands around the coffee mug the second Lynda set it in front of him, letting the heat seep into his fingers while he tried to stop shivering. He watched her moving around the kitchen, warming stew, fussing over him, keeping the house together like she always did, and for a moment the weight on his shoulders felt just a little lighter.

He took a slow sip of the coffee, then leaned back in the chair with a tired sigh. "Lynda, sweetheart," he said quietly, keeping his voice low so it wouldn't carry into the living room, "I've been asking myself that same question all day."

John rubbed a hand over his beard and looked down at the table for a second before looking back up at her. There was worry in his eyes, but there was also that stubborn steadiness he always seemed to carry, even when things were at their worst. "I'm not gonna lie to you. I don't like what I'm hearing. Demons are restless, omens are stacking up, and every instinct I've got is telling me something ugly is coming." He paused, then gave her a softer look. "But I also don't want them taking one more thing from us than they already have."

He glanced toward the doorway, in the direction of the boys asleep in the other room, and his expression gentled even more. "Those boys deserve a home that still feels like a home. Not just a safe house. And you..." He reached out and laid his rough hand over hers if she came close enough. "You deserve a husband who remembers that Valentine's Day is supposed to be about loving his wife, not just loading weapons and checking windows."

A faint, crooked smile tugged at one corner of his mouth then.

"So here's what I think," he went on. "We celebrate. Maybe not big, maybe not fancy. Maybe it's just you and me after the boys are asleep. I can bring home something sweet if the stores haven't already been picked clean by panic. You make that pie I like, or don't, if you're tired. We keep the lights low, keep the wards fresh, maybe put the shotgun behind the pantry door just in case." He huffed a quiet little laugh. "Real romantic, I know."

Then his face turned serious again, voice dropping lower.

"But if this uprising hits before then, or on that day, we adapt. We celebrate later. A day late doesn't matter. A week late doesn't matter. What matters is that we're all still here to do it." He squeezed her hand. "I'm not risking you, Angel, or Dean for some date on a calendar. Not ever."

John lifted the mug again, took another drink, and let the warmth settle in his chest. "So I guess my answer is... we plan for Valentine's Day. We hope for it. And we keep a knife under the table while we do." He looked at her with that familiar mixture of exhaustion, love, and iron resolve. "That's about the best promise I can make right now."

Then, after a beat, his expression softened into something more tender.

"But, Lynda... if the world gives me even one quiet hour with you that day, I'm taking it." He gave her hand another squeeze. "Demons can wait their turn."

Lynda didn't say anything at first as she finished warming the stew. Once the stew was ready, she dished John up a big bowl and then placed it in front of him, with his spoon. It was only after she began to pour a cup of coffee for herself and sat down next to her husband. She knew that John had a lot on his mind, and she also knew she probably shouldn't have been brought up but she knew that he knew Valentine's Day was one holiday that was important to her because it was a day to celebrate their love and what they meant to each other. After taking a few sips of her coffee, Lynda finally reached over and placed a hand on his and after mauling over what he had told her, began to reply to everything. "John, honey, I agree with you on everything. We have had to lose a lot to keep our family safe, but we also have a lot to gain too," she told him as she gave his hand a gentle hand squeeze. She then went on still wearing that warm smile that she always had. "Whatever the demons and the rest of the supernatural world is getting ready for, is going to bring a hell on earth like no other," she said as she went on speaking before John could say anything. "We will always get through it together," she told him. She could help but think about Bobby and hoped that he would stay safe. Then she looked back at Angel and Dean sleeping peacefully on the floor and she couldn't help but smile as she turned back to John and for a while, they let the silence of the house for a little while. She knew that John was doing his best, just like Bobby, which made her love her men all the more. Finally, Lynda pulled John's hand over to her and softly kissed it as she began to speak to him again. "Hey," she said as she reached over and softly touched John's face. "Let me tell you what those boys need," she said softly. "They need food, a place to live, which even a safe house to them is home and love," she told him. "And they have all that and more. Our life might be a little crazy, but those boys know they are loved, in so many ways, by so many people, even Bobby," she added. Then she went on to speak to him about what she needs. "And as far as what I need," she started as she once again brought his hand back up to her mouth and gave it a kiss.

"Is what I already have and that is a husband, well in my case, two, that love me very much and would do anything to protect his family," she told him. "I knew what I was getting when I got into my marriages and I knew that there would be things that I would have to compromise on, and Valentine's Day is one of those things," she said as she went on speaking about what he would like to do to celebrate it. "As for your idea about how to celebrate Valentine's Day, I love what you were thinking, though if you bring the pizza and beer, I'll make sure you have not only that pie you like but something even more sweeter than that," she said with a playful smirk as she leaned in and softly kissed his lips. After the kiss, she went on speaking. "Valentine's Day isn't about being fancy or getting fancy things, though that certainly doesn't hurt, but seriously, Valentine's Day is about celebrating the love we have for one another and I don't care if we are here and the boys are upstairs asleep or if we are in some rundown shack, holding two scared little boys for the rest of the night, anywhere with you is fine with me," she told him happily as she paused to listened to John with the most serious look she had. Once he was done, she once more squeezed his hand as she began to reply to him. "John, whatever happens, if we do end up going to war with demonic whatever, as long as you are fighting by my side and we protect those boys sleeping in the living room together, then that's all the Valentine's I need," she said with a smile before wrapping up her thoughts. "And for the record, I happen to think a man who can load weapons and check windows for demonic creatures is very sexy," she said with a seductive smile on her face and then she let out a sigh. "I guess I better go get those little sleepy heads up or else they aren't gonna sleep tonight," she said with a smile as she finished off her now cold coffee and got up from the table. Then she stopped in the doorway and turned to John and spoke one more time. "I love you John Cartwright Winchcester, and I always will," she said as she turned and walked into the living room and gently began to wake the boys.

John stayed quiet for a moment after she walked away.

The stew sat steaming in front of him, untouched.

His eyes followed Lynda into the living room, watched the way she knelt down beside Angel and Dean like the whole world hadn't just been sitting heavy on their kitchen table. Like demons and omens and war couldn't reach past the warmth in her hands.

And damn if that didn't nearly undo him.

He let out a slow breath, rubbed a hand over his mouth, then finally pushed back from the table.

"Lynda."

His voice was low, rough around the edges.

He stepped into the doorway, watching as Dean stirred with a grumpy little sound and Angel blinked sleepily up at her.

John leaned against the frame for half a second before walking in.

"I love you too," he said, softer now. "More than I ever knew how to say right."

Dean lifted his head a little, hair sticking up. "Daddy?"

John's expression softened instantly.

"Yeah, buddy," he murmured, crouching down beside him. "Time to wake up before you boys turn into bears on the floor."

Dean frowned sleepily. "I'm not a bear."

Angel mumbled, "You sound like one."

John huffed a quiet laugh despite himself, then reached over and ruffled Angel's hair.

But when his eyes found Lynda's again, the humor faded into something deeper.

"You make this house feel like a home," he told her. "Even when I'm too damn busy trying to turn it into a fortress."

He reached for her hand, holding it tight.

"And for the record," he added, a faint smirk tugging at his mouth, "a woman who can talk about hell on earth and still promise me pie afterward? That's dangerous as hell."

Then he leaned in and kissed her—slow, grateful, and full of all the words he still wasn't good at saying.

When he pulled back, his forehead rested against hers.

"Pizza, beer, pie," he whispered. "And you. That's Valentine's Day."

Dean made a face from the floor.

"Gross."

John glanced down at him.

"Get used to it, kid." His smile warmed. "Your mama's worth being gross over."

Lynda gently began waking each boy as they were still fast asleep. They soon began to move around and started to wake up as she turned and looked up at John, who had gotten up from the table to follow her. "What is it John?" she asked wondering if she said or did something wrong. But when he told her that he loved her more than he ever knew how to say it, a soft, warm expression came over her face as she began to smile at him. "You just said it beautifully, my love," she told him as Angel, who was fully awake was making gagging faces. Lynda turned looked at him with a playful grin on her face as she pulled him into a hug. The she pulled Dean up into her arms next to Angel and she couldn't help but hug her little sleepy cubs. Both boys wrapped their arms around Lynda and she gave each one a soft kiss on the cheek. She looked up at John with a smile and the boys in her arms. "Well papa bear, you keep us safe and we love you for that. And as long as you keep making our little house safe, I'll keep making it a home," she added. She couldn't help but laugh when he said a woman who can talk about hell on earth and still making pie is a dangerous one. "Don't worry, I promise to only use my powers for good or to feed this family," she said with a laugh and then still being gentle and yet getting a bit more serious. "I need two little helpers to help make something yummy," she said as she looked at Dean and Angel, who got excited. She knew they loved it when she baked, whether it be a pie, cake or even cookies, just the love she put into whatever she was baking made that particular thing tastes all the sweeter. "So, my sweet little cubs," she said as both Angel and Dean were now fully awake and ready to get messy with the flour and things like that.

"What shall we bake?" she asked them, to which Dean said pie and Angel said cake. Both John and Lynda laughed as she came up with a solution. "How about we make both, if daddy wouldn't mind helping us," she told the boys and then looked up at John with a playful. The boys turned and looked up at John and began begging him to help. Both Angel and Dean left Lynda's arms and ran over to John, each grabbing a leg and began to chant please daddy over and over again. Lynda stood up and laughed. "Looks like you have been cankled," she said laughing as she was watching John trying to walk with two boys sitting on his feet and holding onto his ankles happily. "You might as well say yes or else you aren't never going to get those boys off your feet," she said. "I should know. They cankle me at least once a day because they want something I won't give them at the moment," she said with a chuckle. Then she walked over to John and put her arms around his neck and softly kissed his cheek. "I love our plans for Valentine's Day," she whispered to him. "Though I do have a little something for you for later on that night," she whispered so the boys couldn't hear and using her most seductive tone she had. Then she got back into her playful mom mode again. "So, how about we get to those desserts?" she asked him and the boys, who was still excited and getting even more excited, though there was a strange noise that came from outside that quickly got Lynda's attention. Though she didn't want to scare the boys, she gave John a worried look before going and checking what that noise was. When she opened the door and didn't see anything, she turned and looked at John. "Must have been the wind," she told him with a smile, even though her eyes were saying a different story.

John's smile faded the second he saw Lynda's eyes.
Not her mouth.
Her mouth was still doing that soft, brave thing she did when she wanted the boys calm.
But her eyes?
Her eyes had gone sharp.
Hunter sharp.
John shifted instantly, one hand settling on Angel's shoulder, the other brushing Dean back behind his leg.
"Wind doesn't make you look like that," he said low.
Dean peeked around him. "Dad?"
John didn't take his eyes off the open doorway. "Stay with your mother."
Angel frowned, trying to act braver than he felt. "But—"
"Angel." John's voice dropped just enough to stop him. Not angry. Final. "You're the oldest. Help your mom keep Dean in the kitchen."
That did it. Angel straightened like he'd been handed a badge.
Lynda's smile softened for the boys, but John saw the worry underneath it. He moved to her side, close enough that his arm brushed hers.
Then he leaned in, voice barely above a whisper.
"Lock the door behind me."
He gave her one quick look—one full of everything he couldn't say in front of the boys.
Then, louder, he forced a crooked grin.
"Daddy's just gonna go tell the wind it picked the wrong house."
Dean's eyes went wide. "Can wind get in trouble?"
John grabbed his jacket from the chair.
"In this family?" he said, opening the door. "Absolutely."
And then he stepped outside into the dark.

Lynda went over and quickly locked the door behind him, just like John wanted Lynda to do. Then she turned to look at the boys with a smile. She could see the fear written all over the boys' faces and knew she had to do something to take their minds off of whatever was outside, if anything, though Lynda knew there was something evil. Lynda thought quickly and then came up with an idea and soon turned to the boys and began to speak to the both of them. "Okay boys, why don't we go into the kitchen do something fun for daddy," Lynda suggested as she was trying to keep the boys calm while trying to hide the fact that John was outside with God knows what. She knew the kitchen was the safest place for the boys since there wasn't any windows in the kitchen for them to look out, though there was a backdoor, but Angel and Dean were still too little look out the backdoor window. Anyway, once they got into the kitchen, she turned to look at the boys once more with a soft smile on her face and began to talk to them. "Who wants to help mommy make some special cookies for all the big and brave boys? And yes this includes cookies for daddy," she told them with a chuckle as she waited for their replies.

Meanwhile, outside, the wind, which still had that evil and cold feel to it continued to blow, causing something to howl, which could only mean one thing. There was a werewolf nearby and with the full moon shining brightly over the Winchester home, it was very close. The moment it heard John coming out of the house, werewolf moved back into its hiding spot so John couldn't see him, but he could see John. The Werewolf stayed for a few minutes, just watching John as he came out of the house and went directly to the Impala. The Werewolf couldn't exactly see what John was doing, but it looked like he was getting something from the trunk, some sort of weapon, but still he couldn't see what it was. The werewolf stayed hidden, knowing that whatever John was up too, though something did catch the werewolf's eye and that was the back door. So, very carefully, trying to avoid any attention that would cause John to look over his way. As the werewolf was making to back door, he couldn't help but step on stick that broke loudly enough to get John's attention, though the werewolf kept checking for John, which he didn't see, though had a feeling that he was close by. Finally, the werewolf made it to the back door and stood up, looking in as he watched Lynda and the boys making cookie dough and the placing it in the oven, unbeknown to him, that John wasn't too far away.

John froze.
The sharp crack of a stick snapping echoed through the darkness.
Every instinct he had screamed at him.
Not deer.
Not a rabbit.
Too heavy.
Too deliberate.
His hand immediately tightened around the sawed-off shotgun he'd pulled from the Impala. The weapon was loaded with silver rounds. He slowly turned his head toward the sound, his eyes scanning the tree line.
Nothing.
Just shadows.
Just darkness.
Just the moonlight dancing between the branches.
But John Winchester knew better.
Something was there.
Watching.
Waiting.
A low growl rumbled somewhere beyond the trees.
John's jaw clenched.
"Werewolf," he muttered.
The full moon overhead only confirmed it.
His heart skipped.
Not because he was afraid for himself.
Because Lynda and the boys were inside.
Without taking his eyes off the woods, he slowly moved away from the Impala and circled toward the back of the house.
Silent.
Careful.
Every step measured.
The cold wind blew again.
Then he saw it.
A massive shape standing at the back door.
Looking inside.
Looking at his family.
John's blood instantly turned to fire.
The werewolf was so focused on watching Lynda, Dean, and Angel that it never noticed John approaching from behind.
Inside the kitchen, Dean was excitedly trying to dump an entire bag of chocolate chips into the cookie bowl while Angel argued that cookies needed more chocolate.
Lynda laughed despite her worry.
"Not the whole bag, sweetheart."
"But Daddy likes chocolate!"
"He does," she admitted.
Neither boy noticed the enormous shadow beyond the glass.
Neither noticed the yellow eyes staring at them.
But Lynda suddenly felt something.
A chill.
A mother's instinct.
Her smile faded.
Slowly she looked toward the back door.
And her heart nearly stopped.
A monstrous face was pressed against the glass.
Yellow eyes.
Long fangs.
Claws scratching softly against the doorframe.
"Dean..." she whispered.
The boys immediately looked at her.
They saw the terror in her eyes.
Then—
BOOM!
The blast from John's shotgun exploded through the night.
The silver round struck the werewolf square in the shoulder.
The creature howled in agony and was thrown away from the door.
Dean screamed.
Angel grabbed Lynda's leg.
And before the boys could panic further, the back door flew open.
John stepped inside.
Shotgun raised.
Eyes blazing.
"DON'T MOVE."
Lynda immediately pulled both boys behind her.
The werewolf, wounded but alive, staggered to its feet outside.
It snarled.
Blood dripped from its shoulder.
Then its yellow eyes locked onto John.
The hunter and the monster stared at one another.
Neither willing to back down.
John's voice was calm.
Deadly calm.
"Take the boys into the pantry."
"John—"
"Now."
Something in his voice made Lynda obey instantly.
She scooped Angel up while Dean grabbed her hand.
As they disappeared toward safety, John kept the shotgun trained on the wounded creature.
The werewolf growled.
John growled right back.
"You picked the wrong damn house."
Then the monster lunged.
