Laura could tell that Joey meant what he said once he was able to find his voice. She knew he had surprised him by calling but that was okay, she was trying to get in touch with her New York friends anyway. She knew she still had to call Ross, which she would do later. Laura cleared her throat and began to reply to everything that Joey had just said, starting with the wedding and baby. "It's good to hear from you to Joey," she said with a chuckle to her voice as she went on. "And yes, I'm getting married and having a baby (or rather 4 babies) and I was hoping that you would come for the wedding and meet the love of my life," she told him as she went on speaking. "Thank you Joey and I'm happy too because I finally have the love of my life back in my life and now I'm carrying his child (children)," she told him as she then moved onto the bad part of her relationship with Eric Cartwright.
"Eric Cartwright, the love of my life and the father of my child (children), has a bad heart and it's really messing up on him right now," she explained to Joey. "Right now, they have him sleeping while they run some tests, but it's not looking good for his heart," she added and then let out a sad sigh. "He's fighting so hard to stay around for me, and I know once he finds out that I'm pregnant, he'll fight even harder," she told Joey as she fights back tears again. "But he looks so tired and worn out. I am starting to wonder if maybe he should just slip away peacefully," she confessed to Joey. "I mean, not that I really want him too, but I just hate seeing him so weak and frail like he is," she added and let out another sad sigh. Then Laura cleared her throat and tried to get happy again. "I'm sorry to burden you with this," she told him with the apologetic tone and yet still trying to keep a happy and upbeat tone. "But enough about me and my problems," she said as she was moving on from her problems to what Joey had been doing since she left New York. "Let's talk about you, my dear friend," she added sounding a bit more upbeat, though the sadness was still there in her voice. "How are things going with you?" she asked him, knowing he was trying to make it big as an actor. "Are you getting any good roles these days?" she asked him before moving onto the one subject that always made Joey a little uncomfortable and even a bit shy at times. "Have you and Phoebe finally made it official, or have you still not told her how you feel about her yet?" Laura asked Joey and not mixing words about what she was asking him.

Laura smiled when it finally hit Joey as to who was calling. She just loved surprising her friends. It was one of the few things that made her very happy. Finally, after a few minutes of silence, just so Laura could hear Joey's voice again, she finally began to speak. "Yes Joey," she said with a chuckle. "It's me. How have you been? Anything new with you?" she asked as she was working her way up slowing in telling Joey what all was going on. Laura then cleared her throat as she went on speaking, now letting him in on some of the things that were going on there in Virginia City.
"Oh, nothing much going on over here," she said playfully as she used her lazy tone. "I mean I only just got engaged and pregnant," she told him like it was no big deal. She knew he would eventually figure out that she was playing and that it was a huge deal for her to be engaged and pregnant. She let that sink in for a few moments before she finally went on, this time being more serious and sounding less like herself than before. "Of course, the price I have to pay to be happy is the fact that my fiancé's dying," she told him as she let all that sink in as she waited for his reply.

After getting off the phone with Monica, Laura found a piece of paper and wrote down Joey's phone number. Then, while Hoss resting peacefully and sleeping, Laura decided to call one of her other friends, whom she hadn't spoken to since the day she decided to come back to Virginia City. Laura got up and checked on Hoss one more time, who was sound asleep. Then she stepped out of the room and dialed Joey's number. Then she waited for Joey to answer as she stayed close to the door in case Hoss needed her.
