Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 02/15/2026 06:06 AMJennie hadn't realized how tightly she'd been holding herself together until Ryan pulled her chair out and spoke to her the way he did — steady, certain, warm.
For a moment, she just watched him over the rim of her champagne glass.
"Ryan..." she said softly, her voice a little breathier than she intended.
When he talked about surviving, about sunrise, about choosing to live instead of just bracing for impact — something in her chest loosened. She reached across the table and lightly brushed her fingers over his wrist.
"I don't think anyone's ever explained it like that to me before," she admitted. "I've been in survival mode so long it feels... normal. Like if I relax for even a second, something's going to fall apart."
She took a small sip of champagne, then smiled faintly.
"But I like the sunrise idea. I like the thought that maybe I don't have to earn the right to enjoy a good day."
When he suggested the bucket list, her brows lifted.
"A list of things I'm too afraid to try?" she teased gently. "That could get dangerous with you around."
But her eyes were shining — not with fear this time, but curiosity.
When he told her she already belonged — with her family, and with him — her breath caught. She hadn't expected that. Not so plainly. Not so confidently.
Her hand tightened around his for just a second.
"I've always felt like I was visiting everywhere," she confessed quietly. "Like I could be useful, or needed, or wanted... but not permanent." She shook her head slightly. "Belonging sounds... nice."
The crab risotto arrived, and she took a bite, letting the creamy, rich flavor settle on her tongue. She hummed softly.
"Okay," she smiled, pointing her fork at him, "you were absolutely right. This is ridiculously good."
She leaned back slightly, studying him now instead of the food.
"And for the record," she added, softer this time, "I don't need you to fix me. But I do like the idea of not doing this alone anymore."
Her foot nudged his gently under the table.
"You make it easier to breathe, Ryan. That counts for something."
Then her expression shifted — lighter, playful again.
"So," she said, lifting her glass toward him, "if we're done with the serious life philosophy for the night... what exactly does 'having fun' look like to you?"
Her eyes sparkled.
"And be careful," she warned with a grin. "You just told me to try new things. I might actually hold you to that."
Re: Valentine's Day Brings Love and Romance with a Twist (2026)
from jennie on 02/15/2026 05:58 AMJennie stirred softly at the feeling of warm lips against her skin. For a moment she hovered between sleep and awareness, a faint smile already curving her mouth before her eyes even opened.
"Mm..." she murmured, her voice still thick with sleep. "Ryan..."
Her fingers instinctively reached back, sliding over his forearm where it was wrapped around her waist. She tilted her head slightly, giving him better access to her neck while pretending she wasn't fully awake yet.
"You're up early," she whispered, though there was a playful lilt to her tone. "Or... you're being suspiciously sweet."
Her eyes fluttered open slowly, meeting his. The softness in her expression melted into something warmer — affectionate, teasing, completely in love.
"You do realize," she added, her hand drifting up to cup his cheek, "that if you keep kissing me like that, I'm not getting out of this bed anytime soon."
She shifted onto her back, pulling him closer, brushing her lips lightly against his in a slow, lingering kiss. When she pulled back, she studied his face like she could already tell he was hiding something.
"You're planning something," she accused gently, one eyebrow lifting. "I know that look. You get this little crease right here." She tapped the spot between his brows with her finger. "It's your 'I'm about to spoil you rotten' face."
Jennie smiled, softer now, her thumb brushing along his jaw.
"Whatever you've got up your sleeve, I don't need moonlight or fancy dinners to have the best night of my life," she said quietly. "As long as I'm with you... I'm already there."
Then, because she couldn't resist, she leaned in again and whispered against his lips—
"But if there is breakfast involved... I'm accepting it. Immediately."
Re: A Winter Wonderland Christmas (2025)
from jennie on 02/15/2026 05:53 AM(meh)Jennie stood at the window for a long moment before she even realized she was doing it.
The snow had started falling again over the Ponderosa, soft and steady, turning everything into something out of a postcard. It should have made her smile. Christmas lights twinkled from the barn. The big pine near the house was strung with gold ribbon. Everything looked perfect.
But Hoss wasn't there.
And that left a hollow ache in her chest she couldn't quite shake.
She wrapped her arms around herself and exhaled slowly. "He's safe," she whispered, as if saying it out loud might make it hurt less. "That's what matters."
Still... Christmas without him felt wrong.
A knock at the door startled her.
She blinked, wiped quickly at the corner of her eye, and forced a small smile before opening it.
And there stood Ryan.
Santa hat slightly crooked. Cheeks pink from the cold. That familiar half-nervous, half-mischievous smile tugging at his mouth.
For a second she just stared at him.
"...Are you serious right now?" she asked, eyeing the hat.
He tipped it playfully. "Ho, ho, ho?"
That did it.
A small laugh slipped out of her before she could stop it.
"I swear," she said, shaking her head. "Only you would try to compete with Christmas itself."
He stepped a little closer, lowering his voice. "I'm not competing with Christmas."
She raised a brow.
"I'm trying to save it."
That softened her.
Jennie looked at him more closely now — the way he was bouncing slightly on his heels like he had something planned. The way his eyes kept flicking toward the driveway.
"What are you up to?" she asked, suspicious but curious.
"Get your coat," he said simply.
"Ryan—"
"Trust me."
She hesitated. Normally she'd press him. Normally she'd make him explain every detail.
But tonight... she was tired of being sad.
And she trusted him.
"Fine," she said, grabbing her coat and scarf. "If this ends with me freezing to death, I will haunt you."
He grinned. "Worth it."
When she stepped outside and saw it — the sleigh, the white horses, the soft jingle of bells in the quiet snowfall — her breath caught in her throat.
"Oh my God..."
The lanterns along the sleigh glowed warmly against the night. Steam puffed gently from the horses' noses. It looked like something out of a storybook.
"You didn't," she whispered.
Ryan shrugged like it was nothing. "Figured you deserved something magical."
Her eyes shimmered a little at that.
"You didn't have to do all this."
"I know," he said quietly. "I wanted to."
That was when she noticed the blankets tucked inside. The thermos. The goodie bag.
"You planned this," she said softly.
"Down to the mistletoe."
Her eyes snapped to him.
"You did not."
"Oh, I absolutely did."
For the first time that night, the ache in her chest eased.
She stepped closer to him, looking up through the falling snow.
"You're ridiculous."
"Adorably ridiculous."
She rolled her eyes, but her smile lingered.
"Thank you," she said, more serious now. "I've been... I've been trying really hard not to let today get to me."
"I know," he said gently. "It's okay that it does."
That did it.
Her composure cracked just a little.
"I hate that he's not here," she admitted softly. "I hate not knowing exactly where he is. I hate pretending I'm not worried."
Ryan stepped closer, hands settling gently at her waist.
"You don't have to pretend with me."
Her eyes searched his.
"And what if I fall apart?"
"Then I'll hold you together."
The snow caught in her hair as she leaned into him, just slightly.
"Are you trying to make this the best Christmas of my life?" she teased, voice softer now.
He gave her a look.
"I'm planning on it."
Her heartbeat stumbled.
"Oh?" she said, pretending casual though her pulse betrayed her.
He smirked faintly. "Major gift's not until Christmas morning."
Her eyes narrowed playfully. "Now I'm nervous."
"You should be."
She laughed, shaking her head before glancing back at the sleigh.
"Alright, Santa," she said, holding out her hand. "Show me what you've got."
He took her hand — warm, steady, reassuring.
As he helped her into the sleigh and wrapped the blanket around her shoulders, she realized something quietly important.
Hoss might not be there physically.
But she wasn't alone.
And maybe... just maybe... Christmas could still feel like Christmas after all.
When Ryan climbed in beside her, pulling the thermos from the bag and handing her a cup of hot chocolate, she leaned her head against his shoulder.
"Okay," she murmured.
"Okay what?"
"You're officially my favorite person tonight."
He grinned into her hair.
"Just tonight?"
She smiled.
"We'll see how the sleigh ride goes."
And as the horses began to move, bells jingling softly through the snowy Ponderosa, Jennie let herself feel something she hadn't all day.
Hope. ✨
Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 01/06/2026 05:31 AMJennie didn't answer right away.
For a moment, she just sat there, the neon glow from outside the restaurant washing over the inside of the car, Ryan's words settling into places she didn't usually let anyone reach. Her hands were clasped together in her lap, fingers worrying at each other like they always did when she was trying not to cry.
When she finally looked at him, her eyes were a little too shiny.
"Yeah," she said softly. "Rough doesn't even really cover it." She gave a small, almost embarrassed smile and glanced down for a second before looking back up at him. "I guess I got real good at surviving, you know? Always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's hard to stop doing that... even when things are quiet."
His words about peace made her breathe out slowly, like she hadn't realized she'd been holding her breath the whole drive.
"I like the way you said that," she admitted. "About keeping your eyes on what's in front of you." Her voice wavered just a little. "Most days, I don't even realize I'm looking back until my neck hurts from it."
When he talked about home and family, something in her expression softened—longing, hope, fear, all tangled together.
"That's all I've ever wanted," she said quietly. "Not anything fancy. Just... somewhere I don't have to be on guard all the time. Somewhere I belong." She swallowed. "I'm just scared that if I want it too much, it'll disappear."
Then he touched her face.
Jennie froze for half a heartbeat, not pulling away, just surprised—before she leaned into his hand without even meaning to. His words hit harder than she expected.
"You really think that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "That I already matter... without having to prove it or earn it or mess myself up trying to be enough?"
She reached up slowly and covered his hand with hers, grounding herself in the warmth of it.
"No one's ever said that to me like that before," she confessed. "Not and meant it."
A small, genuine smile finally broke through as she tilted her head slightly, meeting his eyes.
"And yeah," she added softly, a hint of humor returning, "I could probably use some help learning how to do worthwhile things without blowing my life up."
She let out a quiet laugh, then nodded toward the restaurant.
"So... food sounds really good right now," she said. "And Ryan?" She squeezed his hand once before letting go. "Thanks. For seeing me."
With that, she opened her door, stepping out into the glow of the lights feeling—maybe for the first time in a long while—like she wasn't walking alone.
Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 12/09/2025 05:25 AMJennie blinked slowly, caught off-guard by the gentle weight of the question. For once she didn't joke, didn't deflect, didn't pretend she hadn't heard him. Her eyes stayed on the lights blooming ahead of them—Vegas glowing like a whole other universe—but her voice softened in a way she rarely let anyone hear.
"Future..." she echoed, almost tasting the word.
It took her a long beat before she finally turned her head and looked at him. Really looked at him. Ryan wasn't teasing her, wasn't trying to flirt, wasn't pushing too hard. He genuinely wanted to know her. And that... that shook her a little.
"Honestly?" she whispered, her fingers playing with the hem of her dress as if steadying herself. "I've spent so much of my life just surviving whatever the day threw at me. I never really let myself think too far ahead."
She exhaled shakily, then continued.
"But... if you're asking what I want?" She smiled—small, real, fragile. "I want peace. I want to wake up one day and not have to check my back or wonder what's about to go wrong. I want a home that feels... safe. That feels like mine."
Her cheeks warmed, but she didn't look away.
"And I want a family. Kids. The whole messy, loud, crazy thing." She gave a breathy, nervous laugh. "I know that probably sounds stupid coming from someone like me, but I want to love somebody like that... and have them love me back."
Slowly, without fully realizing it, she let her hand drift toward him, her fingers brushing his on the console.
"And I want to do something that matters. Music, maybe. Or helping people. Something that makes me feel like I'm more than everything I've been through."
Then she looked at him—eyes warm, vulnerable, and a little scared of how much he meant to her already.
"And... I want someone I can build all of that with. Someone steady. Someone who looks at me the way you're looking at me right now."
The lights of Vegas grew brighter on the horizon, but in the reflection of the windshield, the glow on her face was unmistakably from him.
Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 11/24/2025 10:52 PMJennie shifted in her seat, her smile softening but not fading. His wicked-witch laugh had her giggling so hard her stomach hurt, and even now she still had a little after-laugh breathlessness in her chest. She let her thumb stroke gently over the back of his hand, grounding him the way she could feel he needed.
Her voice was warm when she answered, a little teasing, a little tender.
"Ryan... if you can survive getting punched in the face twenty-seven times tonight, I think you can survive asking me one serious question."
She tilted her head, studying him—noticing the nerves under the rambling, the way his shoulders tightened every time he glanced at her. It made her heart give a small, unexpected flutter.
She squeezed his hand back, firmer this time, reassuring.
"You're not gonna scare me off," she said softly. "Ask me anything."
Then, with a playful grin as they passed the bright glow of the Vegas billboards:
"Besides... I kinda like it when you get all serious on me."
Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 11/11/2025 11:45 PMJennie's lips curved into a warm smile as she turned her head toward him, her hand still tangled gently with his. The way he spoke, with that mix of confidence and mischief, made her heart race a little faster.
"Well," she said softly, her voice teasing but laced with affection, "if that's your version of a not-heist, I might be in serious trouble." She gave a quiet laugh, eyes flicking between him and the open road ahead.
When he touched her cheek, she leaned slightly into his palm, her thumb brushing lightly over his fingers. "You know, I think that's the first time anyone's ever thanked me for showing up to watch someone get punched in the face," she joked gently, trying to hide the blush that crept up her neck. Then, after a small pause, her tone softened. "But... I'm glad I did too. You've been the best kind of surprise, Ryan."
She glanced out at the moonlit highway and then back to him, her eyes shimmering. "And for the record," she added with a playful smile, "you look pretty damn good in the moonlight yourself."

from jennie on 11/03/2025 03:36 AMJennie laughed softly as she glanced over at him, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Vegas, huh?" she said, her voice teasing but warm. "You make it sound like we're about to pull off some wild heist or something." She leaned back against the seat, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "But yeah," she added with a grin that matched his energy, "I'm ready for all of it. Every bit of fun, trouble, and whatever else you've got planned, Mr. Ace-in-the-hole."

Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 10/18/2025 05:40 AMJennie stood at the bottom of the stairs, smoothing the fabric of her dress nervously. When Ryan spoke, calling her beautiful, her breath caught for just a moment. She wasn't used to hearing it like that—so genuine, so sincere. Her cheeks flushed softly as she smiled at him, shy but touched.
"Thank you, Ryan," she said quietly, eyes meeting his. "You look really nice too." She took the arm he offered, fingers curling around his sleeve as she tried to calm the flutter in her chest.
When Ryan turned to her father, Jennie stayed close by, watching the exchange carefully. Ben's expression was unreadable—part pride, part protectiveness.
"Don't worry, Dad," Jennie said before Ben could even speak, her voice sweet but steady. "We're just going to dinner and maybe a movie after. Nothing too wild, I promise." She smiled reassuringly, hoping to ease some of that worry in his eyes.
Ben nodded slowly, looking between them both. "You have her home by midnight," he said firmly, his tone carrying all the quiet authority of a father who meant it. Then, softening a bit, he added, "And, Jen, you look beautiful, sweetheart."
That made her eyes glisten. "Thanks, Daddy," she said softly, giving his hand a squeeze before turning back to Ryan.
Once they stepped toward the door, Jennie leaned in close to Ryan's shoulder and whispered with a playful glint in her eyes, "You do realize if he ever finds out where we're really going, we're both dead, right?"(maybe they talked about it before)
Then, straightening with a grin, she added under her breath, "Come on, before he changes his mind."
Re: A First Date That Brings a Lifetime of Love
from jennie on 09/09/2025 04:47 AMJennie's voice floated down before she even appeared. "I'm coming, Daddy, hold on!"
When she finally stepped off the last stair, her dress catching the light, her cheeks turned the prettiest shade of pink at the sight of Ryan waiting. She smoothed her skirt nervously, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Sorry I took so long... I didn't want to look like a total mess for our first real date."
Her eyes flicked to Ben, catching the stern-but-soft expression on his face, and she managed a small, warm smile. "What do you think? Not too much, right?"
Ben's brows lifted slightly, and for a moment, he just looked at his little girl — all grown up in a way that tugged at his chest. He cleared his throat and nodded. "You look beautiful, Jen." His gaze slid to Ryan with a father's weight behind it. "You make sure you treat her like the lady she is. Understood?"
Jennie let out a quiet laugh, half teasing, half relieved. "Daddy..." she murmured, giving his arm a gentle squeeze before stepping closer to Ryan, her hand brushing his. "We'll be fine. Promise."
She looked up at Ryan then, her smile softening, eyes sparkling with nerves and excitement. "Ready?"
