Monica didn't say anything for a few minutes as she was finishing up folding clothes for Ross. She didn't know what exactly Ross was up too, and even though she probably leave it alone, she also knew that she couldn't and so after folding the last shirt, she went into the living room, where Ross was getting ready to leave and began to speak to him. "Hold it Ross!" Monica said as she stood in the doorway between the living room and the bedroom. "First off, don't get yourself thrown in jail because you did or didn't do something to the coast guard," she said and then chuckled. She studied Ross for a long time before she finally began to speak to him as she folded her arms. "So, why do you need a big sandwich for Eric?" she asked him. "And did you think you were going to get away without getting me one?" she asked him again with a smile on her face.
Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Laura was laying on the exam table waiting for the doctor to come in. She couldn't help but let her mind wonder to so many things, starting with Eric and the baby, then went on to think about her friends and all of that made her smile. She knew that Monica and Chandler would try to keep things normal and that Phoebe would tantalize Joey and Ross, well, he'd panic and then prepare for things that usually never happen. And all those thoughts not only made her smile but also made her chuckle. Laura had closed her eyes for a few minutes to rest without realizing that she had fallen asleep. It as only when the doctor knocked and came in that Laura jerked awake.

Laura couldn't help but laugh at Ross saying that he was right a lot. Most of the time, she knew she was bailing him out, but she would admit that this time, he was bailing her out, so she wouldn't complain too much about what he said about being right most of the time, though she would make a comment on being stubborn. "I'll admit that I do have a bit of a stubborn side to me, but come on Ross," she said with a playful tone, even though the tiredness was coming through loud and clear. "But I believe you are more stubborn than me. Remember how many times it took for you to wear down Emily before she agreed to go out with you?" Laura said as she briefly changed the subject. "I was sure she was going to get a restraining order, but to your stubbornly worn her out," she added still with that same little chuckle and then got serious again. "I know it is and I'm trying my best to let people help but you know it's hard, especially when I have been carrying the load by myself," she admitted to Ross and then went on speaking. "But I'm trying though and that's the main thing," she finished. As Laura listened to the rest of Ross's thoughts. And as he was speaking, a thought occurred to her. Ross had never been this open about anything before. She knew him as the paranoid, I'm always right type of guy and yet here he was beginning extremely helpful. It was quite a refreshing change, though she still couldn't help but wonder what he done with the real Ross, and soon let out a laugh that she knew was going to get Ross's attention. Laura quickly cleared her throat and began to speak again, this time on what he had just said about having a good support system.
"Wow Ross," she said with a smile on her face that she knew he couldn't see. "That was vey insightful and you don't know what that means to mean to hear you say that," she told him and then went on. "But you are right, I do have a good support system around me, even if you all are several miles away," she said with a chuckle. Just knowing that she could call them up at anytime made her feel more calm and less afraid of what was to come next in her life. But as the conversation took another turn, this time to Monica's pipes, Laura couldn't help but laugh once again. "That maybe so, but you didn't have to run out of the building yelling call the coast guard!!" she said laughing as she remembered all the times that they had and knew that there was plenty of more times to come. "Anyway, that's good hear and you know he might just do that," she told Ross and in back of her mind, she knew that Ben would do just that just to show those who have their doubts about him because he is a little bit on the wild side. But she didn't mind because she knew that he would do great things in life. And she knew Emma would do the same, even as young as she was, Laura knew that Emma was meant to do great things when she grew up. Anyway, Laura shook off her thoughts for the moment and went on speaking, this time about Emma. "Yea I know. I talked to Monica and she said that Emma is really getting big fast," she told him as she paused as she let out a yawn, which gave Ross time to speak once more, this time about Eric and the kind of sandwich he would love before moving onto the ultrasound. "Thanks Ross, deep in my heart, I know I got a good one," she told her friend. "He always says that he's the lucky one, but just between you and I," she told Ross in both a serious and yet warm and loving tone. "I think I got lucky the day I met him. And I know he'll be understanding when it comes to Emma and you are right, he will want to be there for her too," she told Ross softly as she moved onto the playful tone when it came to a sandwich for Hoss. Laura couldn't help but laugh as she listened to Ross's sandwich explanation. When he finished, she couldn't help but chuckle as it was her turn to speak. "That does sound good Ross, and something that I might enjoy," she told Ross. "But Eric is a 6 foot and over 300 pound of muscle and when he wants a sandwich, he wants a sandwich," she told him. "I'll help you get him the perfect one when and if it comes down to that," she added still using that playful tone and yet mixing it with a warm tone that she always had. "I will definitely send it to you just as soon as I get up," she said as she was already waiting for her turn to see the doctor. "I just hope when I do lay down that I don't end up like sleeping beauty and sleeping forever since my prince is sick right now" she told him with a chuckle. Just as they were coming to the end of their phone call, Laura's voice became more gentler and softer. "And I wouldn't want to be stuck with anyone but you Ross," she added. "And I hope you know that you can lean on me anytime. No matter what I'm doing or going through, if you need me, you call me," she told him and with that, they said their goodbyes and soon hung up just as Laura went to get her ultrasound done.

Laura knew that Ross was right, but she didn't want to admit it because she knew it would get him a little bit of a swelled head, and his head was already big enough. She started chuckling out loud before she even realized it. She quickly shook it off before Ross started asking questions. Instead, Laura decided to answer some of Ross's thoughts with some of her own thoughts. "I know I don't, but you know me," she said with a chuckle. "I'm too stubborn to listen until its basically too late," she added still chuckling. "Besides, between you and mean, a lot of things wouldn't have gotten done if I didn't carry more than my share of the load," she told Ross, knowing he would know she was right about that. Laura paused as she thought about how she wanted to continue her thoughts. "And yes, I know I'm carrying a lot both literally and emotionally, but I'm starting to learn though, that I have people who love me enough to help carry some of the load, whether I really want them to or not," she added with a chuckle once more. This time, her chuckling was mixed with exhaustion, but she continued her thoughts regardless. "Anyway, yea, being back here means a lot to me too. I have the love of my life back in my life, we are getting married and having a baby," Laura said softly and contently. "But I still worry about something going horribly wrong," she told him as she was thinking about all the things that Gunnar could do to make her life a living hell. Laura shook those thoughts off and went back to what her and Ross was talking about, starting with whose job it is to worry the most. Laura couldn't help but agree with what Ross had just told her, considering he was right about her carrying and growing inside of her.
"Okay, agreed, but don't go overdoing it with the extra worrying," Laura told Ross. "Because Iknow how you get when you go overboard with the worrying," she added and then started to laugh as if remembering a funny memory. "Remember when Monica's pipes bursts and you ran around yelling at everyone about how Monica had no place to live because you thought it was ruined?" she asked still laughing. "Those were some good times," she added as she then switched subjects and started to speak about Ben and Emma. Laura couldn't help but smile as she listened to Ross talk about Ben and Emma. Once he was done speaking for the moment, she began to speak about how Ben and Emma were. "That's great to hear about Ben. Maybe someday he'll grow up to be a great scientist who will cure everything from heart disease to cancer," she said happily. "You tell him that I am very proud of him and to keep up the good work. And I will see him very soon," she added as she moved onto Emma. "I can only imagine how beautiful she is and as long as she doesn't start showing any of her biological father's traits, I'm happy," Laura said with a bit of relief in her voice as she went on to talk about Eric and how accepting he would be. "Thanks Ross and yea I know he'll understand, he's just that type of guy," she said now sounding a bit dreamily. "I know he'll want to meet her, which I will arrange a little later because I know she will have questions about the things she doesn't know about yet," she added and then took a pause for a few minutes so she could take a few small and deep breathes. After a few minutes of complete silence, Laura then went on to speak again, this time with more of a playful tone in her voice. "Believe me, he won't turn down a sandwich for any reason," she said laughing and then went on. "But tell me, what strategic sandwich did you have in mind?" she asked with a curious and yet playful tone as she move on, this time to a subject more serious than what they were just talking about. After Ross got done speaking and asking her to at least rest if only for five minutes, she began to speak to him again. This time she had a warmth that was mixed with tiredness in her tone. "I will rest. I'm getting ready to go have an ultrasound done and then I will find a bed to lay down for a little bit," she told him and then went on. "And thank you Ross for making me feel better. And you are right, Eric knows that I'm not far away from him, even if I rest for a few minutes. Besides, I know him and he won't rest easy if he knows that I'm not resting, especially with the little one growing inside of me," she told Ross honestly. "Anyway, I'll send you a picture of the ultrasound so you can see your new nephew or niece," she said happily. It was then that Laura couldn't help but yawn and once she was done, she began to speak again. "Oh, sorry about that Ross, I guess I really am more tired than I thought," she added as she yawned once more and then shook it off before speaking again. "Anyway, thanks for listening Ross. I really appreciate a friend like you," she told him. "And don't you forget that you can call me anytime you need to talk too," she added. "And you know I mean that from the bottom of my heart," she added with a smile on her face, even though he couldn't see it.

Laura didn't say anything for a few minutes as she let out a sigh. She really didn't know where to start in replying to Ross, so she just winged it like she was known to do. "You know my motto, go big or go home," she said chuckling though it sounded more tired that it was meant to be. She then looked over at Hoss sleeping peacefully as she went on speaking to Ross. "And I found my way back to him, though getting back wasn't as easy as I hoped, but I'm still very happy that I was able to be by his side," she added as she let out exhausted more than she wanted it too. But she knew Ross was right about her being exhausted. As she thought about everything that has happened, she knew she hadn't gotten a real good night's sleep for a few days, with her being in the condition she was in, she knew that wasn't good. But when he told her that it was his job to worry and not hers, she couldn't help but chuckle. "I think when it comes to worrying, you and I are tied for the job. But I'm glad that I have you to worry about things with," she added as she moved onto the subject of Emma and Ben. "I can't wait to see them both. How is Ben doing in school?" she asked him as she moved on to Emma.
"And it seems maybe Emma is taking after me a little bit," she told Ross with a chuckle. "Which I don't know if that's a good thing or not," she added still chuckling and then got serious. "But seriously though, do me one favor though," she said to Ross. "When you meet Eric, please don't mention Emma is my biological daughter that Monica and Chandler adopted," she told him. "I want to tell him in my own way and at the right time, and right now, isn't a good time to spring it on him that his cousin is also his stepdaughter," she added as she remembered his joke about Hoss messing with him and Ross bringing him a sandwich. "Don't worry, he's as gentle as a newborn lamb," she told Ross. "Besides, I have something that works even better than a sandwich, though he might take a sandwich afterwards," she said laughing as she let Ross decide what she was actually talking about. But soon the conversation got serious as she began to speak again, this time about how she was actually doing and how bad it actually was with Hoss. Laura swallowed a lump that was in her throat as she began to speak. "I'm doing okay, though I have a lot on my mind. And you are right, I haven't been sleeping good since we got here, and I know that's not good for the baby, but I'm always alert in case Eric needs me," she said as she went on after swallowing another lump. "As for Eric condition, they just brough him back from getting some CT scans of his head, and right now he's sleeping peacefully. As for what's going on with his heart, we are just waiting on his doctor to get here," she added.

Laura let out a sigh as she began to speak to Ross. He always had this way of knowing that something was up even before anybody said anything. And although she loved that about him, she also found it to be quite annoying and bugged the hell out of her. Finally, she began to speak to Ross, trying not to sound too out of it, but knowing that he could hear the tiredness in her voice. "Well Ross," Laura started to say. "There's a lot going on, starting with the fact that I'm getting married to the love of my life, Eric Cartwright," she told him. "He's the guy I was always talking about and said I would get back to him someday," she reminded him and then swallowed hard as she went on speaking. "Well, as it turns out, I'm also carrying his baby," she said sounding happy though the tiredness was starting to creep into her voice. Then she went on speaking about the rest of the things that were going on.
"Anyway, when I got here, I found out that my Eric was in worse shape than I feared," she told Ross. "I mean, his mom did tell me at one point that he did have a bit of a heart conditions, but that was a long time ago and right after my dad rescued her from her kidnappers," she said and then took a couple of breathes and then went on. "But..um...his heart is worse than what I was led to believe and now we are in the hospital and I'm watching him fight for his life," she told him as she let out a tired and yet relieved sigh. Then she went on to talk about the wedding some more, knowing that once it was Ross's turn to speak, he would turn the subject back to Eric being in the hospital and finding out how she was really doing. "So, you are invited to the wedding, which you better show up, or I will come back and ring your neck," she said with a nervous giggle. "And please bring Emma and Ben too," she added. "It's been a while since I seen them. I bet they have grown, haven't they?" she asked him. |
