Ethan didn't say anything for a few minutes as a smile came over his face. His eyes also began to sparkle as she revealed that she was single. But when she stepped forward, getting close, Ethan found himself catching his breath as a soft but red blush came upon his face, which only started to deepen when she said she heard what he said about her being a pretty girl and one that he would like. Ethan could feel his heart start to pound, which it felt like it was going to pound straight out of his chest. As he watched her getting the sugar out of the cabinet and began to fill up his cup, Ethan began to clear his throat as he began to speak to Sarah again. "Good," he said with a smile as he reached over and took the cup. He couldn't help but let his pinky finger rub one of hers gently and softly. "And maybe I'll make a sandwich for us to share, and we can watch a movie or just talk," Ethan said. "Lady's choice," she said with a smile on his face once he had the cup in hand. "I shouldn't be more than 10 minutes," he added as he took his free hand and softly touched her face as he let out a sigh of content. She nodded and then soon walked with Ethan back to the front door. They both looked into each other's eyes one last time. Then Ethan turned and walked back to his apartment and disappeared inside his mom's apartment.
Ethan dropped off the sugar and explained to his mom what was going on and why he was so late getting back. As he was talking to her, he began to gather the things he would need to make the best sandwich he knew that Sarah would love, which was a turkey sandwich on white bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato. He just hoped that she like turkey, lettuce and tomato with mayo on whit bread. Once he had the sandwich made and cut in half, he wrapped both sections up separately. He went over to his cabinet and got a small brown paper bag and placed the sandwiches in the bag. Then Ethan began to look other things to put into what he would classify as a cheesy lunch for a first date, to which his mom smiled as she got up from drinking her tea. She put the sugar into the sugar jar for her to use later and then began to help her son. The first thing she did was pack a bag full of pretzels and then she got a bowl full of dip and after placing the lid on the bowl, she put both of them into the bag. Then she grabbed another bowl and placed a couple of pieces of cake in it and placed the lid on the bowl and added it to the other food in the bag. Then she gave Ethan a kiss on the cheek and told him to have a good time as she went over and picked up her tea and went into her bedroom. Ethan smiled as he closed the brown paper bag, made sure he had his keys and then left his mother's apartment and walked over to Sarah's apartment and once again knocked on the door and waited to be let in.

"Well, she was under a lot of pressure," Ethan said with a smile on his face as he took the broom and dustpan from her and began to sweep up the plate and spaghetti. He continued speaking as he was sweeping. "Besides, from everything she had told me, she had something she needed to do for herself," Ethan said as he looked deep into Sarah's eyes as started to clean up broken dishes and food that were all over the floor. "Besides, I don't think it was her intentions to leave you hear with all of this, but I'm kind of glad she did though," he added as he got everything swept up into the pile. That flwas when he turned and gave her a huge smile as he went on with his thoughts. "And for the record, taking care of your mom and loving her doesn't make you stupid," he told her as he bent down to sweep everything into the dustpan. Once he was done and he stood back up, letting his eyes find hers, he continued. "In fact, I think it makes you not only one of the bravest persons I know," he said. "But it also makes you mature because you are not only showing love for your mother, but you are still trying to get your education as well," he added as he picked up the full dustpan. He looked around the kitchen until he found the trashcan. He dumped the full dustpan into it and then went back to pick up the rest of the stuff on the ground. He chuckled when he heard what she said about his jokes. "Yea, I've been told that my jokes are pretty lame," he told her as he tried not to blush when she told him that he didn't ruin his shot. A small smile came across his face. Ethan quickly finished cleaning up the walls and floors and then cleaned up everything he used. Then he turned and looked at Sarah. "Now, it looks like nothing every happened," he said with a chuckle. "And for the record, I only do the walls for pretty girls and ones I like," he told her.
"So, I was more than happy to do your walls," he said, wondering if she caught what he said about her being both pretty and someone he liked. It was then that Ethan cleared his throat once more as he reached over and picked up his cup off the table. "Anyway, if I can get that sugar, I can run it back over to mom and then come back and maybe reheat your dinner or even fix you something different, since not sure if any glass went into the spaghetti," he told her. "Cleaning walls and floors isn't my only talent," he said with a chuckle and then quickly moved one. "And we can talk some more or watch a movie, whatever you really want," he said and then paused as he thought about what he was saying. Then he closed his eyes for a few minutes and took a couple of deep breaths and once he was ready, he began to speak to her again, this time being more gentlemanly than just blurting things out. "What I mean is, if you want me to come back over after I take the sugar over to my mama," he said with a smile as a thought then hit him like a ton of bricks. She could have a boyfriend, to which he swallowed hard and once more tried to correct himself. "Well, what I mean is, if your boyfriend or fiancée won't get the wrong idea," he told her now feeling really stupid for assuming she was single. He didn't say anything for a few minutes as he looked away from her so she couldn't see the tears that he could feel forming in his eyes. After several minutes, Ethan finally turned around and looked at her. "Sorry about that, I thought I had something in my eye," he said trying to cover up everything. He was now beyond nervous and trying not to fumble with his words. "Anyway, how about that sugar?" he asked her feeling very embarrassed as he held out his cup. "Mom's gonna be wondering where the world I went too," he added as he smiled as he looked deep into her eyes, finding it very hard to look away.

Ethan stood there looking deep into Sarah's eye. He could see fear, but not for him. He could see the hurt and exhaustion in her eyes and his facial expression softened even more. Ethan gently reached out and took her hand softly and gently into his. Neither one of them said anything for a few minutes but it was Sarah who was the first one who broke that silence first. And once she was done, Ethan began to speak to her soft and gentle, as he always when he spoke to anybody. "Your mom having a bad day again?" he asked her with a smile as he heard a drawer being slammed. Then he went on as if he hadn't heard the noise Megan was making. "Mind if I try something that I find always works with my mom when she's having one of those days?" he asked as he stood there for a few minutes, still holding his sugar bowl. At first Sarah didn't know if she should let him in, but then finally moved and let him in. Ethan handed him the sugar bowl and answered her, still wearing that smile on his face. "Yes, and while you are getting the sugar, I'll take care of your mom," he said and then went on before she got the wrong idea. "I'll help calm her down," he added as he finally let her hand go and walked over to the door that was locked. At first Ethan knocked on Megan's door, which was met with something breaking against the door. Ethan turned and looked at Sarah, who was still watching him. "Don't worry, I got this," he said and then cleared his throat and soon he began to sing a soothing song. It wasn't quite a lullaby, but it was more of a song of calmness. And after about ten minutes of him singing the same words over and over, Megan unlocked the door and came out. She was shaking but calming down. She looked at Sarah and told her that very sorry for getting so upset and that she was going to go lay down for a little bit. Sarah nodded as she stood there in disbelief. After Megan went back to her room, closing the door gently and went to bed, Ethan turned to look at Sarah.
"Easy peasy," he said with a gentle chuckle. "And in answer to your question, I will stay as long as you need me too, but I really have to take some sugar home to mama first," he said with a chuckle. That's when he noticed the plate of spaghetti that was all over the wall, which made him feel bad. "You know, mama wouldn't want me to leave a pretty girl alone with spaghetti all over the wall," he told her still having that warm smile that never left his face, even when dealing with Megan. Sarah, who only nodded, led him to the kitchen, still trying to figure out what in the world just happened. As Sarah was getting the sugar, Ethan went over to the sink, found a big bowl and got some warm, soapy water and went over to the wall and began to clean the spaghetti off the wall and the ground as well as getting the glass together. As he was doing so, he began to make small talk. "So, Sarah, I know your mom takes a lot of care," he said as he was enjoying cleaning the wall and the floor. "I've seen the way, whom I am assuming, is your sister Laura do it a lot of times," he added with a smile as he dipped the rag he was using into the soapy water and rinse out the spaghetti from the rag and then went right back to wiping the wall again. "I haven't seen her around lately," Ethan said as he was still making small talk, though it was really Sarah he was more interested in than her sister. "Did she finally lose her mind and runaway?" he asked in a playful tone, though deep down inside of himself, he was calling himself stupid for saying that. "Sorry, I didn't mean that. I was only joking," he said hoping he just didn't blow his chance with Sarah. "There," he said as he quickly moved on, with a red face from embarrassment. "Wall nice and clean once again," he said with a smile on his face. "Got a broom and dustpan? I'll clean this glass up for you," he added.

Ethan saw Sarah and she looked more frighten than he had ever seen any woman look. He didn't say anything for a few minutes as they looked deep into each other's eyes. Finally, Ethan began to speak, knowing that something more was going, and he was thinking that it had to do with her mother. "Sarah, are you okay?" he asked her softly. "I heard yelling and screaming," he added and then paused as he thought about what he said and then went back to rephrase what he had just said. "Well, I came to borrow some sugar for mom, since she is baking some really delicious cookies," he said as she was getting off topic before clearing his throat and getting back on topic. "Anyway, I came to borrow some sugar when I heard shouting and what I'm assuming was a plate breaking," he said with a soft and warming tone as he paused, never taking his eyes away from Sarah's. He didn't really know Sarah that well, but from the few times he did talk to her, he found himself smitten with her, even though he knew she was out of his league. Besides, he didn't know how she felt about him, which is why he didn't push anything. Finally, Ethan began to speak again to her in that soft and gentle tone. "Is there anything I can do to help?" he finally asked her, now forgetting about the sugar and more worried about her than anything else. The one and only thing that he was thinking about was the fact that he was wishing she would open the door more so that he could see her beautiful face better.

Megan couldn't help but smile as she watched her daughter scooping up her spaghetti until she had a good size portion. Then after putting a good amount of parmesan cheese on top, Megan picked up her fork and began to cut her spaghetti up into little chucks and began to eat it as she turned to look at the tv, until Sarah was finally able to sit down with her own plate. Megan took a couple of pieces of garlic bread and then handed the plate over to Sarah. "Well, garlic bread also goes good with parmesan cheese and spaghetti," she said with a chuckle and then broke a piece of her bread and ate it. After Megan swallowed it, she took a drink of her cola and then began to speak to Sarah again. "Well, she might have written down, but you just happen to make it a little better than she does," she told Sara as she was being completely honest. "And speaking of your sister Laura," Megan said as she was getting another fork full of spaghetti to eat again. "Have you heard from her? How's she doing in Nevada? When is she coming home?" Megan asked and then put that fork full of spaghetti into her mouth. Megan listened to how Sarah was nervous and how she thought she might have messed it up. And that's when Megan did something she hadn't done in a very long time. She reached out and took Sarah's hand into hers. "Baby, you did a great job tonight with everything," she added smiling as she gave Sarah's hand a gentle squeeze. "Not only did you make a great dinner, but you are handling everything, including me, like you have been doing this all your life," she told Sarah.
"Not only would your father be proud of you, but I'm very proud of you. I know it's not easy having a mom who is messed up," she said with sad sigh. "I know I don't always make things easy, especially on you, and yes I know I can't always show you just how I feel about you," Megan said with a smile as she gave it another gentle squeeze. "But believe me Sarah, I do love you and your siblings as much as a mother could love her children," Megan looked down at her plate and then back up at Sarah. A silence fell over the both of them as they continued eating without saying another word. Finally, as Megan looked up at her daughter, she was still smiling as she began to speak to Sarah again. "Why don't we take the rest of our dinner into the living room and eat it in front of tv. I'll even let you hold the remote and choose what we watch on tv," she said happily. "What do you say?" she asked just as someone began to knock on their door. Megan went quiet for a very long time. She had closed her eyes and grabbed her head as if she felt a great pain, though it was just those voices again telling Megan that Sarah was setting her up. That's when Megan went from being happy to being extremely horrible. "YOU LITTLE BITCH!! YOU CALLED THEM TO COME GET ME...DIDN'T YOU?" Megan screamed as she picked up her plate and threw it at Sarah. "YOU GET RID OF WHOEVER IS AT THE DOOR RIGHT NOW!!" she yelled at Sarah before finally running to her room and once again locking herself in her room. |
