"Bendy please," she told Sarah she finished fixing her drink. After getting a bendy straw for her mom, she handed it to her with a smile on her face. Megan took the glass and after putting the straw in her mouth, she took a long drink. Then as Sarah was telling her that dinner was almost ready, she sat her glass on the table. Megan then turned to the kitchen and began to speak. "Good because that intoxicating smell is making me so hungry," she told her happily. But it was what Sarah said afterwards that really made Megan's day. "Thank you sweetie. Today has been a good day all the way around," she said knowing that Sarah was doing her best while Laura and Ryan were gone. "And I'm so proud of you for stepping up while your brother and sister are gone for the moment," she told Sarah as she got up, picked up her drink and headed for the kitchen table and sat down in her usual chair, which was facing the TV so that she could still see it as she was eating. TV usually kept Megan's mind busy, which made the bad days come less and less.
Megan then took another drink of her soda as she looked over at Sara, who was plating up the garlic bread. "I know I can be difficult to deal with, and I know I don't always tell you how good of a job you are doing," she said as she watches Sarah sit the plate of garlic bread on the table. "But you are doing a really good job of taking care of me, even on my bad days," she added just as Sarah sat down her plate of spaghetti and then went back to fix her own. As Megan started to twirl some spaghetti onto her fork, she turned and looked at her daughter once again. "Sweetie, when you are done making your plate, do you think you could get the parmesan cheese out please?" she asked Sarah in the kindest and sweetest voice she had as she was reaching over to get a couple of pieces of garlic toast.

Megan smiled at her daughter as she went over and sat down on the couch. As Sarah was finding something easy and familiar to watch, Megan began to speak to her daughter as she started to get a bit fidgety. "Where's Laura? When is she coming home?" Megan asked as she started to pick up the pillow that was on the couch and then put it back. She done this several times as she waited to watch something on tv. Finally, Sarah found Bob's Burgers, which was one of Megan's favorite shows to watch, especially when she was having an episode. As Megan started watching Bob's Burgers, she couldn't help but smile as she calmed down enough that she could speak calmly and rationally. "You're welcome sweetie," she said with a smile on her face.
And for a brief time, she sounded like an actual mother who was normal and not one that had severe mental issues. Then Megan went on to speak to her daughter."Don't forget to make plenty of garlic bread," she added. "You know I love me some garlic bread," she said happily and now laughing at her show. "Oh, and sweetie, don't forget my pills with dinner, okay?" she asked as she briefly turned and looked at Sarah and then back at the tv. Sarah nodded as if she remembered everything, which thanks to Laura's cheat sheets she left all over the house, she was able to do just that. Then Sarah disappeared into the kitchen and began to fix dinner as Megan was watching tv and being in a state of peacefulness. About 15 minutes later, Megan got up and went into the kitchen and looked at Sarah with a smile. "Sarah, honey, can I have a coke in a glass with some ice to drink?" she asked her.

Riley felt like she was going to fall backwards when she saw her sister running as fast as she did. Then when Sarah began to hug the stuffing out of her, she couldn't help but let out a tired laugh. Riley hugged her sister back, holding onto her until Sarah was comfortable enough to let her go. Once they were standing face to face and not embracing, Riley, who was still smiling and also very tired began to speak as they began to walk back to the living room where their mom was. "Yes, Sarah, it's really me and yes, I'll be here for a few days," she told her. "And yes, I know I didn't call because I wanted it to be a surprise silly," she told him. "If I had called then it would've ruined the surprise," she told Sarah as they walked into the living room where their mom was, who was sitting on the couch.
Once the girls walked into the room, Megan got up and went over and hugged Riley. After hugging their mother, Riley went on speaking."I missed you too, shrimp," she told her sister playfully. "And yes, I did get some sleep on the bus, but traveling as much as I have, you would be as tired as I am too," she told her sister. "So you can calm down, a lot of my tiredness is mostly jetlag and stuff like that," she told Sarah. "A good night's sleep in a nice warm bed is all I need and I'll be fresh and ready to go," she told them, talking to both Megan and Sarah. Then Riley let out a sigh as she went over and flopped on the couch and soon was joined by Megan and Sarah. "So, tell me, what's been going on since I've been away on tour," she asked as they were all sitting together on the couch happily. "Anything new or exciting happened while I was gone?" she asked her sister and her mom. And though Megan sat next to her, Riley was really talking to Sarah.

Megan stood there for a long time trying her best to focus on her daughter's voice. It was hard because she could hear the other voices and they were telling her to attack Sarah. Megan closed her eyes for a few minutes as if she was trying to steady herself and find her way back. When she opened her eyes again, Megan seemed a bit more focused, despite the fact the voices were loud in her head. "Sarah, honey," she said softly. "Can we have spaghetti for dinner?" she asked sounding almost child-like. Megan took a couple of deep breaths as she waited for Sarah's reply. She was trying to get herself steady so that she wouldn't throw anything more at her daughter. In fact, Megan knew she needed to do something to keep her mind busy while Sarah took a few minutes to herself and get dinner ready.
"Sarah," Megan said slowly as she continued to stand there in front of her daughter. "Do you think I could sit in the living room and watch a little tv while you get dinner ready?" she asked Sarah. Megan knew that she was an adult and could do whatever she wanted but there were times, which were getting more and more frequent, that she felt like a helpless child who couldn't do anything. And this was one of those times, and she just wanted to find an escape for a little while. "I promise I won't throw things anymore or cause you anymore trouble," she told Sarah, now practically begging her to allow her to watch tv. Megan was almost on the brink of tears as she waited for Sarah to reply to everything Megan had said to her.

"I love you too sissy," Laura said as she hung up from the call. Laura let out a depressing sigh as she went back to taking care of Hoss and everyone else. She knew she would have to call Ryan later and tell him what the plan was. But for now, she just wanted a few minutes to herself, to breathe and collect herself. She wanted time to make sure she wasn't going to be sick all over everyone and have Hoss worry about her, making himself even sicker than he already was. Finally, after about 5 minutes of being alone, she finally went back into Hoss's room to be close to him and to make sure he stays nice and calm.
Meanwhile, Megan Schaffer was having a fit in her bedroom. She was throwing things and causing all kinds of noises, until she got bored of it and decided to come out of her room. "Sarah, honey," Megan said as she came out of her bedroom. She didn't sound like there was anything wrong with her. "Are you planning to cook dinner anytime soon?" she asked calmly with a smile on her face. Then suddenly, her voice changed and sounded much angrier as the smile disappeared. "Or do I have to go out and murder someone to get a decent meal around here?" she asked her daughter as she picked up a vase and threw it at Sarah, she was no longer herself as the voices were getting louder in her head, which consequently aggravated her bipolar disorder. |
