Gunner didn't say anything as he buried his face deeper into his pillow, though in the dream it was his mother's neck. He held onto his pillow, though in the dream it was Ingrid, to which she held him as tight as he was holding onto her. Neither said anything for a while, until Ingrid slowly and softly began to speak before he woke up. "Oh, my sweet baby boy," she whispered to him. "You will love again, I promise you that," she told him softly. "And I promise you that she will be your true love and have only love in her heart for you," she added as she softly kissed the side of Gunnar's head. "Now just sleep, my sweet baby, and in a few hours, when you wake up, you will still hear my lullaby until you can do that one small piece of good that I asked you to do," she whispered softly and soon began to sing the lullaby to him as he gently fell asleep in her arms, only to wake up a few hours later, sober and yet still a bit hung over. And as he laid there in bed, no ghosts, no tremors or sick feeling, just laid there, his mama's lullaby started to play in his head, which caused him to even sing along with it for a few minutes as he kept looking up at the ceiling. It was if he was afraid to get out of bed, knowing that if he did, he would fall back into his old ways and let his mom down, which was the last thing he wanted to do. Finally, as Gunnar let out a disappointing sigh, he finally through the covers off of him, though he still wasn't ready to get out of bed yet.
It was then that the doorbell rang, which the first thought that popped into Gunnar's head was that another mob member was at the door and was there to collect something, which he knew he didn't have whatever it was that they were looking for, unless it was his drugs, which he still didn't have ready yet. But it was the second ringing of the doorbell that Gunnar really heard it. Whoever was pressing the doorbell was doing it softly, which was causing not only a soft and gentle sound but also a nice pretty sound, which for him was very unusual to hear. Normally, it was just a continuous loud ringing until got off his lazy ass and answered the door. Finally, after letting out a low sigh, Gunnar finally got out of bed and walked over to the window and looked out, which didn't look happy but it wasn't exactly miserable either. It was just like any other day when all the drugs were gone and he was sober. Once again, the soft and gentle sound of the doorbell rang and soon Gunnar was on his way out of his room and heading down the stairs, and to the door. He hadn't even had time to look at himself in any mirror, which if he had, he wouldn't care what he looked like, at least not until he looked out his peep hole and saw the most beautiful lady standing there, looking lost. Finally, Gunnar unlocked his door and opened the door just in time. The lady standing outside the door, though looking like Laura, smiled big and brightly, began to gently speak to him. "Hi, my name is Rachael Greene, and I live a couple of houses down," she told him as her car was sitting next to the curb, smoking and not moving. "I was wondering if you could help me with carrying my groceries home. The tow truck will be here in a few minutes and I can't carry everything," she told him as she waited for his reply.

But the ghost wasn't done with Gunnar. In fact, she switched herself to someone who she knew might be able to get through to Gunnar, and if that didn't work, she would try her true self, which she hoped wouldn't have to come to that. As Gunnar was making his way to his car, a beam of light hit Gunnar in the eyes and for a moment blinded him. Once Gunnar got his sight back, he saw a familiar face standing right in front of the driver's door to his car, which shocked him. It was his mother, the one he was really close to when he was a boy. "Gunnar, my sweet baby boy," Ingrid said with a smile on her face. That was when Gunnar stopped and just looked at the ghost of his mother. His face went white as his mouth dropped open. The sun was shining around her, making her look more angelic than she really was. "What has happened to my sweet boy who wanted to grow up and help people?" she asked him softly as she reached her hands out to him. Gunnar was still on his knees as he continued to look at her, though this time he was reaching out to her like a little boy reaching for his mommy. She knew that they wouldn't be able to touch each other at the moment, but that never stopped them from reaching out to each other. She wanted to give him that sense that his mother was still there with him and for him, even though she couldn't be there physically. She also wanted him to know just how much she loved him and that her love was never going to leave him, even though she had to. "Sweetie, please, go back inside, lay down and get some rest," she told Gunnar. "Just think about this for a little bit before doing anything irrational," Ingrid told her son, hoping he was listening to her instead of listening to those voices that were talking to him, which she knew she was making some progress with him.
"Please, my sweet baby," she begged as Gunnar was now crying as she knew that Gunnar was trying hard to focus on her instead of the other voices. "Just focus on my voice," she said and soon she had Gunnar stopping to look deep into her eyes. She then began to sing to him the lullaby that she used to sing to him when he was little and scared and didn't know what he should be doing. It was then that Gunnar, who felt like he had been hypnotized, started to walk towards her. And for a while, his hand touched her warm hand as she finished her song and began to speak to him again. "It's okay, my sweet Gunnar," she said softly as their hands laced together softly and gently. "Mommy is here now and I'm going to take you inside to bed so that you can get a good night's rest," she told him as she watched him crawl into bed and just collapse on the pillow. As she was tucking him in, she began to once again sing his favorite lullaby until he was sound asleep. Once Gunnar was totally asleep, he dreamt that he was back with his mother, though this time he was a grown man and she appeared to be alive. She looked just like he remembered her only this time, she seemed more real. She held her arms out to him as she began to speak to him. "Come to me, my sweet boy," she told him. "Let me look at you and see the man you grew up to be," Ingrid said with a huge smile on her face, despite the fact that they both knew that Gunnar wasn't looking all that good at the moment.

Ghost Laura stood there waiting for Gunnar to answer her, though she could tell that he was thinking hard about something. Finally, when Gunnar did speak to her, it was something more twisted to his voice than she really liked. It was almost like there was a darkness that had taken over him and it more than the drugs, though that didn't help the situation any. Finally, it was Ghost Laura's turn to speak, though she knew he wouldn't like what she had to say. "First of all, I only come around when I know you are about to do something incredibly stupid," she told him. "What you aren't realizing is I'm the part of you that's good. I'm also the part of you that you never listen too either," she said as hit Gunnar back with some truth of her own. "And the only reason why you keep calling me Laura is because she is the closest you can come to looking at your mother without losing it," she told Gunnar honestly. Ghost Laura let out a sigh and then put her arms down to her side and then began to speak to him softly. "Gunnar, I don't know what kind of man you think people want you to be, but I know what kind of man you used to be," she told him as she walked over to him and softly touched his arm to the point that he could feel the gentle coolness. Laura went quiet for a while as she just stood there trying to do something, though she really didn't know what she could do. Finally, after listening to Gunnar speak about how he had something better than drugs, which was information, Ghost Laura's facial did change but not for the better, though she didn't mean to give Gunnar the ammo he needed to keep prying.
Ghost Laura let go of Gunnar's hand and began to speak to him once more. "Gun, whatever secret Laura may or may not have, just let it go," she said. "It won't change the past or what happened to your mom or what you saw," she added and then went silent again. She knew that Gunnar was dangerous when he was using and drunk. But she also knew that he was more dangerous when he got information he could use. Ghost Laura started to open her mouth and say something and then quickly closed it as she didn't really know what to say, at least until he started pointing out things that she didn't like. Ghost Laura stayed quiet as while he texted Jax. She knew that there was nothing else she could say or do to get Gunnar under control. Finally, after several minutes of not saying anything and watching Gunnar text Jax, Ghost Laura finally began to speak and she used the most calming and soft tone she had. "Gunnar, I honestly don't know what lies that people have been feeding you. And I don't know what it is you think you are the last one to know, but believe me, this isn't the way to get your point across," she told him. "What you are about to do is cause more trouble for not only you but for people who aren't even involved," she added, though knowing that Gunnar stopped listening to her as he walked right through her. Once again, Ghost Laura didn't say anything when he asked her why the real Laura was really so scared. She started to open her mouth to say something but then closed it. Meanwhile, Jax was still sitting in the hospital parking lot when his phone went off. He read the text a couple of times before putting his phone away. Then he got off his bike and grabbed his backpack out of his motorcycle compartment. Once he had all of that, he carefully followed the stretcher inside and once inside the hospital, disappeared into the bathroom to change clothes so that he could blend in. Once that was done, he gathered his things and found some place to store them. Once he had everything hidden, he went to find the room that held Laura and Hoss and stayed close without anyone noticing.

After reading Gunnar's reply, Jax knew what he had to do. He knew come hell or high water; he would stay with Laura and get all the information Gunnar told him to get. While Jax watched Laura helping Hoss to the truck and then struggling to get him inside, Jax decided to go ahead and reply to everything that Gunnar had told him. "I will do everything in my power to get you the information you need," Jax typed. "I will make sure that Laura will never know that I am following her while keeping her in my site always," he added and then paused to look up to see what she was doing now. Laura had Hoss almost in the truck as Jax continued to watch. He knew they were about to get ready to leave, so Jax put away his phone, with the unfinished text, which he knew he would finish later. Once that was done, he started his motorcycle and then started to go around the block until he saw Laura pulling into traffic, which thankfully there was a car between him and Laura, though Laura never left his sight. Jax followed Laura until he saw her pulling into the hospital emergency room parking lot, Jax knew something was up and he had better tell Gunnar about it. So, Jax went around the block a couple of times until he found a place to pull over and pulled out his phone and after making sure what he had written before was still there, which he was. Then Jax went to add more to his text. "Anyway, just followed Laura to the hospital emergency room parking lot. Not sure what is going on, but will make my way inside to find out," he added and then paused for a few minutes as he read over what he had just wrote. Then he went on to add. "And don't worry about your nephew. I won't touch him unless you tell me too," Jax added and then finally hit the sent button.
Once Jax made sure that his text had actually send, he then put his phone away and pulled back onto the road. Once he got back to the hospital emergency room parking lot, he noticed that they were putting Hoss on a stretcher to take him in but Laura was nowhere to be seen, which he then figured she was waiting inside. So, Jax sat there for a few minutes before getting the best idea ever. He pulled out of the parking lot of the emergency room and drove his motorcycle over where the doctors parked. Once he had that done, he grabbed his backpack and managed to weasel his way in and into the doctor's locker room, where he found scrubs his size and then after ditching his bag, he went looking for Laura, making sure to wear a surgeon's mask to hide his true identity. Meanwhile, back at Gunnar's house, ghost Laura appeared once more. This time she could see the anger not only on his face but in his eyes too. "Oh, I know that look," she told him. "You are about to do something that will hurt a lot of people," she told him and then went on. "Only you aren't going to be using your drugs, are you?" she asked him and then she folded her arms. "Just what exactly are you up too?" she asked him.

"Take your time, but not too long," Nick said in a bit of annoyed voice but with a twist of understanding in it. "I have other deliveries to make and a couple of pick-ups, if you catch my drift," Nick added in the same tone he used before. Gunner finally moved from the spot he appeared to be frozen in. He went over to a drawer with a false bottom and opened the door to the false bottom. In there were tens of thousands of dollars, in which he grabbed a bundle of cash. Then he placed the bottom back on the false bottom and pushed the drawer back in its place. Gunnar unlocked his door and stood there in front of Nick with the bundle of cash in his hands. Nick could tell that Gunnar wasn't looking so good and he decided to comment on it. "Woah Gun, you look horrible," he said. "Rough night?" he asked as he was bringing in all new supplies for Gunnar to make more of his special drug. After that, Gunnar handed over the money, and Nick started to go but stopped and looked back at Gunnar. "You know, it maybe time to let that bitch go," Nick said as he was talking about Laura. "She's not good enough for you and even after all you did for her, she still ran to that fat ass nephew of yours," he added.
Gunnar was about to say something to Nick as his anger was boiling over, but his phone started going off, so Gunnar pushed Nick out the door, and after almost slamming the door shut, he locked it again. Then Gunnar went over to his phone and noticed that Jax had texted him. "I'm in Virginia City. Going to go rent me a room and rest for a will," he wrote and then went on typing. "As soon as I rest a bit and grab me a bite to eat and a cool beer to wash the dust out of my mouth, then I will proceed to find Laura and follow her per your instructions," Jax added as he paused for a few minutes to read over everything he had written so far. Once he was satisfied with everything, Jax went on typing. "I will check back later with a report. Will call next time. Is there anything I need to be aware of or any instructions I should know?" he added and then hit the send button. And as Jax waited for a reply from Gunnar, he got off his bike and went into the hotel, only to find that Laura was walking down with Hoss in her arms. So, Jax went over and made himself scarce as he watches Laura and Hoss leaving the hotel. He knew then he had to forget the room and a nap, his target was Laura and he wasn't about to let her get away that easy. |
